The ULTIMATE Car Ride!

When it comes to making memories with our dogs, we love taking things to the next level—literally. After all, why settle for a basic car ride when you can upgrade the experience to a three-wheeled open-air Slingshot? This adventure was a part of our "bucket list for dogs" series, and we couldn’t wait to let our pups experience the ultimate joyride. Spoiler alert: they had the best day of their lives!

Renting the Slingshot: Easy, But Do Your Homework

Renting a Slingshot was surprisingly easy, though not all rental companies are dog-friendly. We did some research to find a location that allowed our furry passengers. It’s crucial to call ahead and confirm the rental policies regarding pets, as some companies have strict rules or additional fees. Thankfully, we found a dog-friendly rental company that made the entire process hassle-free, and we were on our way to picking up the keys in no time.

The Ride of Their Lives

With the Slingshot revved up and ready to go, it was time for our three dogs—Blue, Titan, and Maverick—to experience the thrill. We made sure to take turns letting each dog sit in the passenger seat. Safety first: we had a belt buckle leash clipped on for each pup while they were in the Slingshot to ensure they stayed secure during the ride.

The moment we took off, it was like a doggy dream come true. The wind rushing past their faces, the open views, and the new smells made for sensory overload in the best way possible. Blue, our sassy and adventurous husky, was especially thrilled; he barked excitedly as if he was giving directions. Titan, who usually prefers to be a couch potato, surprised us by thoroughly enjoying the ride, his snout up in the air. Maverick, the baby of the trio, looked completely in awe—it was clear he was just trying to keep up with his older brothers and take it all in.

Taking Turns for Safety and Fun

We rotated the dogs frequently to make sure everyone got a turn in the passenger seat. Each dog had about 20-30 minutes to enjoy the ride before we swapped them out. While one dog was living their best life in the passenger seat, the other two were hanging out with whichever one of us wasn't driving. We took plenty of breaks to ensure they were comfortable and well-hydrated throughout the day. Safety was our top priority, so we made sure the belt buckle leash was always secure before each dog took their turn.

At every stop, the dogs seemed eager to jump back in, as if they couldn't get enough of the open-air ride. The smiles and wagging tails were endless; it was a day that none of us—pup or human—would ever forget.

Helpful Tips for a Slingshot Ride with Dogs

  • Find a Dog-Friendly Rental: Not all rental companies allow dogs, so it's important to confirm their pet policy before making a reservation. Look for rentals that cater to pets or are at least open to accommodating them.

  • Bring a Safety Belt for Your Dog: A belt buckle leash or dog seatbelt is a must to keep your dog secure in the Slingshot. It’s an extra layer of safety to make sure your furry friend stays put even on sharp turns or sudden stops.

  • Rotate Dogs and Take Breaks: If you have multiple dogs, take turns letting each one sit in the passenger seat and give them time to rest between rides. Frequent breaks help prevent any anxiety or fatigue.

  • Plan a Scenic Route: Choose a route that has plenty of open scenery, low traffic, and places to pull over for rest stops. Your dogs will appreciate the extra sensory experiences.

  • Hydration and Comfort: Bring water and a collapsible bowl to keep your dogs hydrated during the ride. Also, consider adding a cushion or blanket to the seat for extra comfort.

  • Check the Weather: Since a Slingshot is an open-air vehicle, make sure the weather is suitable for your dogs. Avoid extremely hot or cold days to keep your furry friends comfortable.

Taking our dogs on a Slingshot adventure was more than just crossing off another item on our bucket list—it was about creating a day filled with excitement, laughter, and plenty of wagging tails. With some planning and a focus on safety, it’s an experience we’d highly recommend to any pet parent looking to make unforgettable memories.
